Jaguar and Panther Packs both competed in the prestigious District Cub Oxley Shield competition this weekend, which incorporates the separate Wildgoose Handicraft competition. The Oxley Shield competition, fought for by fourteen Cub Packs from across Ware & District, was a two-day camping event which tested each team of six Cubs' knowledge of camping skills and team work. Tests included fire lighting, tent pitching, first aid and cooking amongst others. On the Sunday morning, the Cubs competed for the separate Wildgoose Handicraft competition, where they had to create a hat to their own design using the materials provided.
Jaguar Pack won 1st place in both competitions, which is a superb result. Panther Pack came a respectable 9th in the Oxley Shield event with a team of five younger Cubs.
The Oxley Shield, which is a very impressive piece of silverware, has been fought over by Cub Packs in Ware & District since Group Captain Oxley donated the shield in 1929. This is the first time that a Cub Pack from 1st Stanstead Abbotts & St. Margaret's has won the shield in its eighty year history. This is also the first time that we've won the Tim Wildgoose Memorial Trophy since it started in 1979.
