Scouts to write a Recipe Book for Camping

The Scout Group is writing a Recipe Book for Camping to raise funds to help for all their Beaver, Cub and Scout activities.

As cooking is always a very important part of any camping adventure, we thought that a book produced by the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts could give people a really good idea of what can be cooked on camp beyond the traditional  ‘Sausage’. We are looking for ALL types of cooking recipes for the book, from cooking on stoves or open fires to backpacking meals and backwoods cooking, when you have no pots or pans to hand.  We are hoping to collect a wide range of recipes that could suit families, weekend campers and those looking for something more adventurous – so anything from a stir-fry to fish wrapped in newspaper and a roast chicken dinner in a homemade oven and sponge cakes cooked in orange skins!

We are hoping to collect recipes not only from our current Scouts and their families, but also ex-Scouts and also some celebrity ex-Scouts.  The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will be joining in the venture with recipe collecting, writing guides to Camp Cooking, making illustrations and contacting ex-Scouts. They may even have some funny stories about camp cooking - good and bad.

Over the next few months all the age groups will be involved in various aspects of the book’s production, with testing recipes being of paramount importance!

If you have any recipes you would like to send in, please hand them in at HQ or email them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Any help with production, publication etc would of course be very welcome – please contact Fiona McKenzie-Smith at the same email address.
