This year we decided to combine Remembrance Sunday with Christmas camp, therefore, the theme was the 1940s – it was going to be a wartime Christmas camp.  The Cubs were issued with Identity Cards and Ration Books.

The Cubs had a great time taking part in activities including making lanterns, Christmas trees, and poppies.  They also had quizzes about wartime and what people did.  Even the games they played were similar to back then.

On the Saturday they had Christmas dinner.  Father Christmas also came, however, his grotto was set up in an air raid shelter and during the whole visit, you could hear air raid sirens, planes and bombings going on overhead – it sounded very real.

In the evening, they had a fancy dress party to celebrate the New Year, they came dressed as evacuees, soldiers, air raid wardens etc.

On Sunday morning, the Cubs held their own Remembrance Service.  After the 2 minutes silence, they read out the prayers they had written.

During the weekend, not only did they have great fun, they also learnt a lot about life during the war to help them understand the meaning of Remembrance Day.

All the Cubs went home happy, excited and tired!!
