Four girls and seven boys braved freezing temperatures and Glastonbury like mud, in the 2010 Green Beret Challenge at Phasels Wood, Kings Langley 19-21 November. The competition involves not only camping for two nights but facing team challenges such as Assault course, Orienteering, Firelighting, Glow in the dark pulleys, Mission Impossible, Mazes and many more. 112 teams of about 6 Scouts each from Scout Groups around Hertfordshire descended on Phasels Wood near Hemel Hempstead on a very foggy and cold Friday night.

With activities starting at 7am and going on throughout the day and night until 11pm, the Scouts were very grateful to the Leaders and Explorer Scouts for providing them with constant hot food and drinks to keep them going.  For all the cold, wet, fog and mud the Scouts really enjoyed the” Obstacle course” and especially ”meeting up with the other teams around the camp fires”  according to one tired, muddy but very happy Scout on arriving home.

The Chicken Casserole also was a major highlight and, although really enjoying the full breakfast each morning, some Scouts were still slightly  ‘unsure' of Blackpudding !

The ‘A’ team came a respectable 69th out of 112 highly competitive teams with their training team learning many new skills and determined to be competitive next year.

Well Done !
