Last night the Woodland Colony went up to "Stansteadbury Farm" for their meeting. First, games in the field and feeding the Chickens there - Then, very quietly, over the style onto the lambing field. Ewes and their newly-born lambs were everywhere - the Group sat very quietly, as the Farmer was worried that noise and sudden movements could startle the Mums and their lovely little lambs. The Beavers understood this, and we so well behaved that the flock seemed totally unconcerned by us being there.
Then we went to another field, and had drink and biscuits in "The Shepherds Hut" - a lovely new movable Hut on wheels - designed for the Farmer to stay overnight during lambing - complete with a wood burning stove, bed, table and chair - This "Hut" can be moved around to where the Shepherd/Farmer needs to be - in order to watch over the flock, and if the weather is cold or wet, then at least he has a nice warm and comfortable shelter for the night - can also make tea on the stove to drink. Very cosy!
Back to the Barns for a Sing Song. Afterwards two Beavers - Sam and Alex - said "Goodbye" to the rest of the Colony - and they "swam" up to the Cubs with their new olive green tops on! All the Beavers were given the GLOBAL BADGE to sew onto the uniforms before their parents arrived to take them home.
