Our 2 Scouts Teams building & paddling

After being transported to The Ware Library Car Park and fuelled only by doughnuts, hot dogs and custard creams, the Scouts worked as a team to speedily build their rafts to get a good positions on the starting grid.

With 2 teams of 6 Scouts building each raft from scratch in the pouring rain, the practicing paid off, as well before the race starting time both teams had lashed their poles and barrels together and had carried them down onto the launch area ready for the off.

The race started with everyone trying launch their rafts and start paddling down the river towards Amwell End and then back again. Our teams (4 Scouts paddling per raft) powered their way through the course and finished an impressive 3rd and 5th place overall (2nd and 4th out of the Scout teams).

With teams from other Scout Groups, Young Leaders, the Police and the whole community taking part there was a great atmosphere as the crowds cheered the teams on through the pouring rain! The Scouts were delighted to beat the men's Police Team who appeared to be chasing one of our Scout Teams all the way! There was lots of laughter and fun had between all the raft teams and crowds as you can see in the photos in the Gallery and in this week's Mercury.
