A patrol of Scouts from our Troop won first place in the District's Scout Heavyweight Camping competition at the weekend. This is the first time that Scouts from the 1st Stanstead Abbotts & St. Margaret's Group have ever won this event in its 71 year history!

Our wining patrol of four Scouts, Henry, Grace, Jenny and Charlie won the Royal British Legion Shield for the Scout event, while our second patrol of Leigh, Curtis, Hannah, Oliver and Rosie took a very commendable third place. Special mention should go to Clare McKenzie Smith, who was too ill to compete but sorted out the menu selection and wrote out recipes from her sick bed to ensure the winning team knew what they were doing.

The event, that started in 1940 and has never missed a year since, is the best test of a Scout patrol's camping and team working skills and so is the premier event of the District's annual calendar to win. It is also shared with the District Guides and the Explorer Scouts. The winning Explorer Scout team was led by Bethan Howe, an ex-Stanstead Abbotts Scout too!

This is a fantastic result from our Scouts and a great reflection on the quality of our Troop leaders.

Well done to all concerned
