Scouts – 2nd place at Ware’s Open Raft Race
Posted on 23 July 2018
The Scout Troop have been celebrating after their team of 6 scouts came 2nd in the annual Ware Festival’s Open Raft Race which this year was especially tough and exhausting in the hot July 2018 weather.
The team of 6, girls and boys, had been practicing their raft building skills over the last couple of months which meant the team built a really tough and study raft very quickly and got their raft on the pontoon in 2nd place out of the 4 teams taking part this year.
Once the water part of the race started, our team of 4 paddling Scouts worked really hard to first paddle downstream, initially taking the lead, and then to the turnaround point at the Saracen’s Head and then back again to the finish line at Ware Library in a fiercely fought battle against the team from 2nd Ware Scouts..
Friends, families and leaders cheered them on (wildly) from the banks as they fought a tough battle against the final winners 2nd Ware Scouts.
A great race and a massive ‘well done’ to everyone and congratulations to the team of Scouts from 2nd Ware Scouts for a fantastic race and winning this year’s trophy and to the team from the Riverside Place Care Home who won the adults trophy.
Many thanks too to the team from Hertfordshire boat rescue who volunteered their time to be on rescue duty for the race and the local police officers who came along and gave their support to all the teams as well.
