Scouts and Panther Pack Cubs create HQ Poppy Art Installation
Posted on 27 October 2018
Girls and boys from our Scout Troop and Panther Cub Pack have created an extraordinary poppy art installation over the doors of our HQ in the lead up to this year’s Remembrance Day.
On separate evenings, the Cubs and Scouts cut and painted the bases of large recycled plastic drinks bottles to make these very effective plastic poppies on sticks which were then placed over the main outside door at HQ.
The Scouts, meanwhile, having helped making the poppy art installation, then spent the following Friday night and Saturday morning helping local Hertfordshire Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal co-coordinator, Anne Sauntson and other volunteers prepare, box up and deliver over 15,000 poppies and all the collection boxes for the local area.
Always busy and looking at ways to protect and support our local environment and it’s wildlife, our Panther Cubs have also made bird feeders this month using lard and birdseed to take home to encourage and support the birds in their gardens over the winter.
Panther Pack’s Akela was delighted to welcome Dano O’Neill from Ware and District Scouts, (who supports and trains all Explorer Scouts in the area who choose to volunteer as Young Leaders) to their evening as well to present Louis with his Young Leader Award. They also invested three new Young Leaders for the Pack, Oscar, Ewan and Adam who have all recently moved up from our Scout Troop into Explorers.
