Scouts’ summer woodland camp
Posted on 3 June 2018
The Scouts travelled over to Danemead Scout Camp in nearby Broxbourne woods for a weekend camp to take part in many of the Outdoor Adventure Challenge Award activities.
In addition to setting up their own team camp sites and cooking their own suppers, the girls and boys took part in a wide variety of challenges, activities and games to complete the award. Some of the team leaders used the occasion to complete the leadership element of their Personal Challenge Awards as well.
The teams enjoyed fun and informative activities and team challenges on:
- Creating a camp gadget using ropes and staves (wooden poles) using the knots they have learned
- Axe, saw and penknife safety
- First Aid and CPR
- The Countryside Code
- Fire lighting and campfire safely
- Bivouac building among the trees
- Personal and camp hygiene
- How to pack a ruck sack
- And preparing their campfire entertainment for that evening
When the leaders checked to see if all the marshmallows had been found during the evening’s Marshmallow Hunt around the woods, unsurprisingly they were none to be found; Just some rather sticky and happy Scouts.
Danemead is always a favourite camp for the Scouts and Leaders alike and several Explorer Scouts returned to help with this weekend’s camp as Young Leaders and adult leaders. This year’s camp was blessed with warm and dry weather and ended with everyone singing happy birthday to one of the Young Leaders who turned 18 that weekend and, in turn, became one of our new adult leaders.
